Born in a musical family, Nilanjan (Neil) grew up in Varanasi, India. He imbibed music from his parents and his elder brother. He started learning Tabla at a very early stage, under the tutelage of Pt. Mahadev Prasad Mishra”. He also received valuable guidance from his illustrious mother Vidushi Purnima Chaudhuri”, exponent of “Thumri” of the renowned “Benaras Gharana”. Nilanjan began stage performances at the tender age of eight, as a Percussion accompanist in his elder brother’s musical group “The Nightingale”.

From the very early days, Nilanjan was inspired by the evergreen voice of Kishore Kumar. Kishore da’s mellifluous voice, evident in the golden Bollywood era, amazed and inspired him as a boy and has ever continued to do so.

Nilanjan later moved to Hong Kong. His Kishore Kumar like voice has enthralled the Hong Kong Indian audience for over a decade. He has participated in several musical concerts hosted by “The Hong Kong Bengali Association”, “The India Arts Circle”, “Forum of Indian Professionals in Hong Kong” etc. Nilanjan won the Hong Kong Auditions for ZEE Antaakshari and flew to Mumbai to shoot for the prime time show in 2005. He won the 1st Runner Up position. He also won the 1st Runner Up place in 2008 Star Voice of India-HK contest, sharing the stage with Bollywood great Udit Narayan.

Nilanjan participated in the prestigious 4th Alberta Bangla Sammelan held in Calgary, Canada in April 2009, where he shared the stage with stalwarts like Runa Laila, Kumar Biswajeet, Arati Mukherjee and Nachiketa.

Nilanjan has also performed in India and San Francisco, USA. Though Hindi Film Music is his forte, Nilanjan’s repertoire includes Bengali & U.P. Folk Music.

Presently based in China, Nilanjan heads China operations of India’s largest Leather Garment Manufacturing Company “Bhartiya International Ltd.”
